St Tropez In Shower Gradual Tanner

When I first bought this last summer, I was incredibly disillusioned with the product. It is a very subtle approach to self tanning and most definitely doesn't give the same effect as a spray tan or self tanning mousse. I also found it a bit of a bore, waiting around wet for 3 minutes before I could rinse off.

But fast forward to a winter sun holiday, when you really don't need to be completely bronzed, and I gave this another shot. WOW! I was completely taken with it and am in love. Let me give you a few tips on how I made it work for me...

1: Exfoliate!!! Doesn't matter what you use to do this step, but make sure you get to all the rough skin patches.  If you want to make a treat of the exfoliation, my favourite products are Aesop Geranium Leaf Body Scrub, Clarins Exfoliating Body Scrub, and Ren Rose Sugar Body Polish.

2: After reading some people's tips on the 3 minute wait (planking and other virtuous activities), I now use the time - and I happily take 5 minutes or more with no untoward affects so far - to do my skincare and make-up and even clean my teeth. As long as you are standing on a bath mat you are good to drip a bit? Time flies like this :)

3. Moisturise profusely afterwards. You won't notice much of a change immediately, but by evening you will suddenly realise you have a tint of colour (or you just don't glow white anymore!)

I happily apply this 3 times in the next week and have enough colouring to feel more comfortable with my legs and any other bits on show. Saves the hassle of a spray tan (I hate that sticky feeling and the bad night's sleep waiting for it to develop properly!). If you are worried about how to do your back, I have a truly hilarious hint - apply the lotion to the backs of your hands and use a windscreen wiper action to apply to your back! Miraculous discovery! I have not had any problems with blotches as the tint is so carefully subtle.

Bring on the ankle showing weather.
