Onesie for Grown-Ups

I think we all saw the Jumpsuit appear on the scene last winter and a few of us jumped right up and bought into the trend. Those of us who have been slow to embrace this grown up version of onesie (hoping it would be a one-season wonder) are now seeing it pop up everywhere for all occasions and wondering whether to now get in on the act....

I say if you have the figure for it - buy one now! It makes dressing so simple as there is no top to match or decide to tuck in or leave out etc etc...If you go with a version which is ankle grazer length with slim legs, then equally you can wear any footwear you like from trainers to stilettos depending on your mood or where you are off to. I also believe a jumpsuit could be a great travelling outfit as it looks comfortable but still pulled together.

Personally I am steering clear of the Jumpsiut as I am a typical apple shape and with no waist to speak of, it just isn't my best look. Not to say it doesn't look okay on me, but there are definitely many other things which I think I can look better in! This has not not stopped me trying on a gazillion of the things. The closest I have come to purchasing was this one at J Crew...

It was fresh off the delivery when I tried it on in the blue colour way (comes in green, black and blue) and I was very taken with it.  £148. The fabric is lightweight crepe and hangs beautifully, and could easily be very casual with a denim jacket and flip flops and then be transformed into evening wear with heels and clutch. Word of warning the black is seriously the darkest black I have ever seen! I may still be tempted, despite it not being so flattering on me!

Other easy to wear versions, in my humble opinion are the following...

Selected Femme Blue Denim Jumpsuit £75  Simple scandi style here. Equally easy to dress down for daytime with flats and tote.

The most popular version has to be the khaki boiler suit at Topshop which has all but sold out and has a waiting list for any possible returns. Just goes to show how fashion can be a great game for sheep!

And how about this as a foil for my beloved J Crew version also at Forever21...think that will be in my basket for a try on...Zip Front Jumpsuit £21

I feel the need to warn you to be wary of shorts jumpsuits though...mutton and lamb come to mind very quickly. There is definitely a time and place for them - possibly on your very casual beach holiday - but you will be hard pushed not to see the same number worn by your own or a friend's teenage daughter and causing you extreme jealousy seeing how they are supposed to look! Just don't do it to yourself. It is a tricky line to tread, but we can do it.

Hope you manage to find your perfect jumpsuit.
